Water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes) is a floating aquatic plant native to tropical and subtropical regions of the world. It has large green leaves that can reach up to 8 inches in diameter depending upon the space available for its growth and a short, white root system. This plant is a great addition to any pond or water garden as it provides a natural filtration system and helps to keep the water clean and clear. Water lettuce is an excellent source of oxygen and provides food and shelter for fish and other aquatic creatures. It requires very little care and can easily be propagated.
